Internet Shopping:Modern Way To Shop

At first, I had certain doubts and fears about Internet shopping. Nearly all of my friends have started to go shopping on the Internet years ago, yet it took me only until this year to finally get started with it.

I have a high-speed Internet connection, and in most senses I am a pretty Web savvy, high-tech kind of guy. Nevertheless, shopping on the Internet scares me. Think about it this way: if you walk into a store, you have every opportunity to see if something looks fishy.

If the clerk looks dishonest, if there are people waiting around looking for your credit card number, or if the store seems to sell shabby wares, you can always back out before it is too late. At an Internet shop, however, you have no chance to do any of this. Basically, you have to just trust a total stranger, sight unseen. That is something that is hard for me to do.

It was about to happen in the long run though. Finally, I was drawn into Internet shopping by the same reason why everyone is doing it, because of convenience. I can order a book for a cheaper price through Amazon instead of ordering it into my local bookstore while waiting for a few weeks to pick it up.

Internet shops are the best way to search some things especially if you are looking for hard to find or collectible items. Today, there are many things that you cannot find unless you use the Internet to search it. Everything is on the Internet is what they say.

For example, one of my cousins just recently bought a highly coveted item in an Internet antique shop. It was a turn-of-the-century lamp, and it was absolutely gorgeous. He had been looking for it for years, and if it hadn’t been for Internet shopping he might never have found it.

The fact that he was able to browse the wares of many national and regional antique dealers made the Internet shopping more valuable than all the hours he spent looking through various antique shops. It gave him more shopping power than he would have normally had.

Even so, I am still very careful with my Internet shopping practice. Many of my friends will buy things almost anywhere, but I on the other hand, will only go to a few different stores. The only drawback with Internet shopping is it makes me nervous to give out my credit card over the Internet, just like most people would be. In this case, you should know how to use your credit card carefully for Internet shopping and always be cautious.

Good points in this article Margie. It took me years to get up the courage to shop online. At least at a store, if a mistake is made, you can correct the situation right there. If you make a mistake online, it could take weeks to recover any money problems. The more experience you get, the easier it becomes. I started with items under #5 to make sure I was confident enough to more up the ladder.

    Thanks for the post

    Hi, Margie:

Thanks for posting this informative and encouraging article. Like the writer, it was years before I felt confident enought to shop - and pay - online. However, as Leon just said, the more you do it, the more confident you become. And as time and technology move forward, security issues become less of a concern and dependable shopping sites become more obvious.

It is true Margie, many of us have certain fears of the internet to overcome before inevitably succumbing to shopping online, but I think eventually it is something that the whole world will be doing.
    I really enjoyed your article.

    Hi, Margie,

Good post. I started shopping online, only after I joined SFI. After that it has become a routine now. But I do most of my payments through paypal to remain on the safer side.

    Hi Margie,
I started using the Internet to shop and pay bills a few years ago and now i don’t know how I would survive without it. Its been so long since I’ve purchased anything with a check that my bank has changed names twice and I still have the old checks.Once you overcome the fear it is so much easier you wonder why you waited.

    Nice post,

    Hi Margie,

As an ex-pat Brit who lives in Japan, I really appreciate the way I can shop for stuff online. My latest purchase was a book bought from Alibris via the TripleClicks site.

Provided you shop at reputable stores, using a credit card online is actually safer than using it in a shop or restaurant!

    Best wishes,

    Hi Margie,

I do shop online but not very often. I suppose it’s the fear of being scammed that is holding me back from doing more shopping from online stores. But using the internet to buy stuffs is really really convenient.

And like Damodar said, using paypal to do online transaction is making online shopping more secure.
